Assigned Certifiers
Recent amendments to the Building Control Act 1990 have significantly changed the requirements for supervision, inspection and certification of new building works.The amended Regulations (S.I. No. 9/2014 - Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014) apply to the following project types:
- Design and Construction of New Dwellings
- Extensions to Dwellings of greater floor area than 40 m 2
The amended Regulations also enforce the use of an Assigned Certifier. The duties and responsibilities of Assigned / Design Certifiers under the Act are specifically defined by the Regulation and must be Chartered Engineers, Members of the Royal Institute of Architects Ireland or a similarly approved professional.
